Anthropic — the developer of the Claude models — released its next-generation Claude Opus 5 (official announcement, Jul 24); Snowflake, as a launch partner, opened it for public preview on its Cortex AI the same day, with this positioning: intelligence approaching Fable 5, Anthropic's current top-tier flagship (a tier above the Opus line); new highs on coding and knowledge-work evaluations, surpassing the prior Opus 4.8; and an adjustable "thinking effort" setting trading reasoning depth against speed (Snowflake official, Jul 24). Note these are Snowflake's vendor descriptions, with no named benchmarks or scores — not standardized results. The trend worth logging is distribution: the model hit a third-party enterprise platform's menu on launch day — distribution radius is now part of how model vendors compete.
