NVIDIA open-sources Run:ai; only one license is stated
NVIDIA says it is open-sourcing all of Run:ai, the GPU scheduling software it bought in 2024, with no paid subscription, and the GPU cloud Lambda says it will integrate it

Why this matters to you: NVIDIA says its GPU scheduling software, which used to cost money, is now open source with no subscription. Only the scheduler's license is confirmed, so whether GPU clouds and self-built clusters can skip a license entirely is still open.
NVIDIA says it is open-sourcing all of Run:ai, the GPU scheduling software it bought in 2024, with four components on GitHub, no paid subscription and eight named integration partners (NVIDIA technical blog, 2026-10-13). The GPU cloud Lambda said the same day it is working to make Run:ai a first-class option on its Kubernetes service (Lambda blog, 2026-10-13).
Our reading: DSX is NVIDIA's brand for its AI-factory platform. NVIDIA positioned DSX's operating software as open software in June, and this is the first concrete release we have tracked. Our guess, not settled: NVIDIA doesn't intend to earn license fees at this layer and is aiming to become the default control plane for GPU clouds. The post gives no motive. The things to watch are the licenses on the remaining components and whether GPU clouds make it their default scheduler.
Not proven yet: only the KAI Scheduler is explicitly placed under the Apache 2.0 license How we checked →
