Third Moment runs 10,000 agents at once; it's self-reported
OpenAI customer story: the quant startup Third Moment self-reports running 10,000 agents at once for 36 to 48 hours each, with an outer program deciding whether to retry, terminate or escalate to a human

Why it matters: Ten thousand isolated containers running 36 to 48 hours each is a concrete, vendor-reported example of agent demand. It becomes evidence for item 1 only if the cloud and CPU are named.
OpenAI's customer story of October 14 says the quantitative-finance startup Third Moment Research uses Codex, OpenAI's coding agent, to "run 10,000 agents at once on investigations lasting 36-48 hours". Each agent runs in a Docker container with 1 TB of data. Unfinished tasks go to an outer control program: "The outer harness examines the trajectory when a task is left unfinished and determines whether to retry, terminate the job, or escalate to human review" (OpenAI, 2026-10-14). On results, the page says only that it "improved the baseline trading system", with no figures.
Read alongside main-line item 1: this is a concrete example of demand at the agent execution layer, ten thousand isolated environments in parallel, each running for a day or two. The page doesn't say which CPUs or which cloud the containers run on, so it describes what the demand looks like and isn't procurement evidence. It counts as evidence for item 1 only once the customer or OpenAI says which cloud and which CPU those containers run on.
Not proven yet: the 10,000 figure is the customer's own account, relayed by its vendor How we checked →
