Unconventional AI to acquire NeuReality; terms not disclosed

Unconventional AI, a startup founded by former Databricks executive Naveen Rao to build AI chips on an unconventional architecture, has agreed to acquire NeuReality, an Israeli AI inference chip company; the price wasn't disclosed. Unconventional AI announced the deal on X and on its blog on October 26 (Unconventional AI, 2026-10-26, announcement). Both boards have approved it, and closing is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. Unconventional AI says it wants NeuReality's seven years of inference-chip work and its engineers. The aim is to shorten the path from Unconventional AI's "4-dimensional substrate" to production systems. The company has not described what that substrate is. Rao wrote: "They have built a fantastic engineering team that enables us … to just go faster" (Naveen Rao, 2026-10-26). The announcement gives no performance figures for it. The "1,000x improvement in AI compute efficiency over conventional architectures" is the company's target, not a measurement. NeuReality has issued no separate statement, so every detail comes from the acquirer. How we checked →

Concept illustration: a white sign at the top, lettered "UNCONVENTIONAL AI" beside a blue U-shaped mark, is joined by a thin vertical line to a tilted red panel below. The panel is lettered "NEUREALITY" beside a blue mark of two linked squares and shows two people in white lab coats at a counter looking down at a large square chip with pins, while on the left a woman in a black top with a lanyard badge reaches up and holds a black round-headed pin at the panel's top edge.
