Rainier gives Anthropic 500,000 chips; only Amazon said it
Amazon said in October 2025 that Project Rainier, an AWS compute cluster, gives Anthropic nearly 500,000 of Amazon's own Trainium2 chips for training and inference, but Anthropic's IPO filing gives no chip count. Amazon announced in October 2025 that Project Rainier used nearly 500,000 Trainium2 chips, a platform 70% larger than any AI compute platform in AWS history (About Amazon, 2025-10). Anthropic's October 26 S-1 says only that Claude is trained and served on four kinds of chips: AWS Trainium, Google TPU, NVIDIA GPUs and AMD GPUs. It gives no chip counts, and the main text doesn't mention Rainier (S-1). The S-1 states its compute contracts only in dollars, so the missing count may simply be disclosure practice and doesn't mean the figure is wrong. As of today the figure still comes from Amazon alone. The next possible independent check is Amazon's third-quarter report or Anthropic's amended filing. How we checked →
