AMD says Meta is testing its Helios rack systems

AMD says Meta has installed AMD's Helios rack-scale systems for testing, Meta will deploy a custom Instinct GPU, and AMD will put US$1 billion into Meta's equity offering. AMD's October 27 press release lists three things. First, the initial Helios systems are installed at Meta and in testing; AMD describes them as on the way to larger-scale deployment, so they are still at the test stage. Helios is AMD's rack-scale AI system, built to compete with NVIDIA's whole-rack products. Second, Meta is an early defining customer for the MI450 architecture behind AMD's Instinct data-center GPUs and will deploy an Instinct GPU customized for Meta's workloads. Third, AMD will invest US$1 billion in Meta's equity offering, meaning a supplier is buying shares in its customer. The press release gives no deployment scale, purchase amount, terms for the investment or total size of Meta's offering. All of this is AMD's own account (AMD, 2026-10-27). How we checked →

Concept illustration: on a raised isometric platform, a small building on the left has a sign lettered AMD with a green angular mark and open double doors, and three brick-red discs stand in a line on the floor leading to an open doorway in a larger walled enclosure on the right. That enclosure's sign shows a blue looped symbol and the lettering META; inside stands a tall black cabinet of perforated panels lettered HELIOS, with a person wearing a lanyard and holding a sheet of paper beside it.
