Looking back · SecondSource call of August 2, settled October 3
Investor Bill Gurley predicted analysts would spend eight straight quarters asking how much of CoreWeave's unsold compute NVIDIA has committed to buy, and on the first call no one asked and the company gave no figure.

GPU cloud revenue growth reads accurately only alongside utilization or guaranteed offtake, and CoreWeave's results give neither number, so the answer waits on company disclosure. On September 30, SecondSource checked the transcript of CoreWeave's August 11 second-quarter 2026 earnings call, which runs 18 pages and was corrected by a financial-data vendor. In the English transcript the word "backstop" (a promise to buy what can't be sold) appears 0 times, and no analyst in the Q&A asked about offtake volume. CoreWeave also published no data-center utilization and no volume bought by NVIDIA, saying only that short-term capacity is effectively sold out. The rule SecondSource set at the time: if no one asks and there is no number, outsiders can't separate real demand from what relies on NVIDIA buying, and SecondSource scores the claim "outsiders can't tell real demand" as holding. The questioning Gurley predicted didn't happen, so the claim holds only by default: no number exists that could overturn or prove it (card). How we checked →
